Today, on our last (half) day in San Francisco, we spontaneously decided to take the cable car one more time ;-) We hang on a Powell and Hyde Cable Car on Union Square, and hopped off on Lombard Street. This piece of street is quite steep and impressive!
On our fifth (and last) day in San Francisco, we take the bus to Golden Gate Park. More than a hundred geocaches are hidden here by the way ;-) In the west, the Park borders on the beach, so we get a close look at the pacific again. The sun was shining all day and it was as warm as yesterday, but we had a few light clouds today.
Today on Thanksgiving we had the most beautiful weather at all. Sun was shining on a spotless sky, and it was so warm that we had to take off our jackets. We took the bus line 38, which took us directly from downtown San Francisco to the west coast. At the ruins of the Sutro Baths, we get an impressive view on the pacific. We walked along the trail to Land's End, where we had a nice view on the Golden Gate Bridge again.
On this sunny day, we decided to climb on Telegraph Hill and enjoy the view on San Francisco. There were stairs, and another stairs, and yet even more stairs. Finally we reached the foot of the tower. Unfortunately, the observation desk of the tower is closed due to renovation. But still the look down from the hill is amazing.
If you pass the gate to Chinatown, it's like entering a complete new world in San Francisco. The style of the houses, the street signs, the colors, the smell, the sound, all is suddenly changed. Only the cable cars and the steep hills remember you that you are still in SF ;-)
Due to the rain on our second morning in San Francisco, we did a lot of shopping today around Union Square. But after noon, skies getting clear and we had a mostly sunny afternoon. In the evening, after a lot of walking from malls to shops, we decided to take the cable car 'uphill' and to walk 'downhill' thru the city. We ended up at the Ferry Building, buying a big bag of fresh fruits for dinner, and taking the cable cars back to our hotel. (Cabel Cars are so much fun, I really really love that!)
On our first day we took the cable car from Powell/Market Sts. to Fisherman's Wharf. From the Piers, we had a great scenic view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. We walked back along the bay shore to the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge. On our way, we found some very nice hidden geocaches ;-)
